Hadleigh Woods         Gazette

Veronica T. Kohsiek, 90   The new year began with the sad passing of Ronnie after a difficult period of illness.  Ronnie moved here from New Jersey four years ago to live with her daughter, Marian. Ronnie will be greatly missed as she was an inspiration to so many people both in Hadleigh Woods and in the area. Her late-in-life ascendancy as a Perpetual Deacon in her church was a fitting tribute to her wonderful and caring ways with others. In addition to Marian, she leaves a son and another daughter.

Kathleen J. Bachand, 57   It with much sadness that we report the recent death of our dear neighbor Kathleen after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Kathy and her husband Ray moved to Hadleigh Woods just over three years ago and soon thereafter she began having serious health problems. For some period of time she valiantly mixed serious treatment with a full work schedule with nary a complaint. She leaves two daughters, Kimberly and Amy, along with four loving grandchildren and a large, extended family. She will be sadly missed by all but especially by her husband. Ray will need the sympathy and support of all of us in ways both large and small. He is most thankful for the support he has already received.

Edward Harrington, 81   Ed’s is the latest untimely death to occur in our small, close knit community. Ed and his dear wife Phyllis, came to us from Harwich, MA.  Previous to that, they were long time residents of Burlington, MA. They looked forward to a long and happy time together in Hadleigh Woods. In addition to his wife of 55 years, Ed leaves 2 daughters, Janice and Patricia, and, 3 sons, Michael, Joseph and Jeffrey plus 12 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and 2 brothers. Our hearts and prayers go out to Phyllis and the family as they face an uncertain future without Ed’s love and guidance.

New Condo Fee Schedule.  Some of you may be having some trouble determining exactly which new, 2008 monthly rate to pay. Simply stated, the schedule is as follows:

                         All “A” Units (the mid-sized ones)………Pay $178.00 per month

All “B” Units (the bigger ones)…..………Pay $185.50 per month

All “C” Units (the small one on a slab).…Pay $174.00 per month

If you are still unsure which unit type you have contact one of the Directors for help.

Condo Insurance Coverage.  If you have not already contacted your insurance agent about your condo coverage, you could be paying too much. Our new contract with Nationwide includes the dwelling (as it was when originally purchased from the builder without any subsequent alterations or improvements….that is your responsibility to insure) and you might be over insured by paying again for your own unit coverage. See your agent soon. If you have questions, please contact a board member.

Seasonal Decorations.  The time has come to remove all outside Christmas decorations from around your unit. Obviously, if some are “frozen in place,” remove them as soon as possible and do not illuminate them any longer.

More New Members on Budget-Finance Committee. The recently announced advisory committee to the Board has two new members in Betty C. and Roger L. who join past presidents Marian and Len K. with Jim C.

Defective Weather Stripping on the Large, Double Hung Windows.  If you identify any that need repair, notify one of the Directors with the number of windows to be repaired and the Board will arrange to get the new stripping to you. You are responsible for removing the old strip, cutting and sliding the new piece in place. The local dealer who supplied the windows to the builder is providing replacement stripping material to us for the next three years at no charge.

Veterans.  As a veteran, are you aware that you may be eligible for a real estate tax credit? There are informational brochures in the Town Hall office lobby. Call the Assessor at 434-7530.

Poker, Anyone? A group of card playing residents have put together a regular, friendly poker game of several tables. If there are any other like-minded residents please give Dick M. 890-0323, Joe C. 898-3379 or Joe D. 893-1974 a call.

Anyone for Golf?  Due strictly to the recent change in the weather, the once (or twice) a week “H-W Golf School” is postponed until next spring. We are advised that the heated Tee Boxes at the Windham Driving Range are now open for those who just can’t wait!!

Breakfast Every Friday at 8:30 AM.  An informal breakfast open to all residents of Hadleigh Woods is normally held every Friday at 8:30 AM at the Alley Kat Grill located inside the Park Place Lanes, unless you are notified differently.

Bowling Every Wednesday at 3:00 PM. The H-WOpen-To-All” bowling party is held every Wed. afternoon at 3:00 PM at Park Place Lanes.  After, around 5 PM, everyone is welcome to join in for dinner at J. Michael’s Sports Pub on Rockingham Road.

Walking the Rail Trail Every Sunday at 9:01 AM.  Suspended until further notice due to, what else?...... the weather!!!

Hope this finds everyone looking forward to a healthy and happy new year. I have it on good source that the snow and ice will melt away (eventually) and that there is a springtime waiting underneath to magically reappear. Meanwhile, Brrrrr.
