And The Winner Is:  The Maintenance Team’s 2007 Lamp Post Planting Contest was a success by any measure; over forty residents planted creatively in the lamp post area in hopes of being chosen as the “Best” display. Although only one resident, Olly of 19 Flat Rock Road, was declared the winner by the judges from the Windham Garden Club, they thought that the 7 honorable mentions were also very good. The judges also noted how nice our lawns and grounds look, adding up to a pleasant visual experience we can all be proud of.

Congratulations to Olly and all those who help keep our community in flower! Now, let’s all start planning for even better displays in ’08.

A warm welcome to our new neighbors, Jane and Ed  of 33 Hadleigh Road. Stop by and introduce yourselves with a big “H-W hello”!

From the Board of Directors

Nominating Committee: The Board is seeking a few members to step forward as volunteers to serve on the new Nominating Committee. If you are so inclined or want to discuss the task, please contact Len K., President, without delay.

Lamp Posts Repairs in the Common Area:  A volunteer committee headed up by Directors George and Mary Ann , will inspect, clean and replace burned out lamp bulbs throughout the community. For anyone wanting to help out, please give any Director a call so we can set-up the work dates.

Lawn Sprinkler Cycles: Recently, the amount of time that some zones operate has been changed by the Landscaper to better control drought conditions. This will result in a different start time for any given zone so if you notice a change, it’s probably O.K.

New Association Blanket Insurance Policy: Effective August 14, 2007 the Board of Directors accepted a new and improved Blanket Insurance package for the Association. Beyond increased liability, building structure and earthquake coverage, there are aspects of the new plan that may have an impact on your own condo insurance. Since the impact is dependent upon what you might or might not have done to customize your unit, the Board invited a representative of Nationwide to meet with the entire community to help you assess what to do with your policy. This meeting will be on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 at 7:00 PM at the Windham Senior Center. Mark your calendar and plan to attend.

Fall Loam and Reseeding Program: Sometime after the 1st of September, the Board will get another load of loam and provide seed and fertilizer to make minor repairs to damaged lawns. We are looking for anyone who would like to work as a lawn team volunteer or work alone around their unit. Contact any Director to sign-up.

Landscape Committee: Our collective thanks continue to go out to this group of volunteers who help so much with the task of keeping our common areas looking so neat and groomed. Right now they are enhancing the Hadleigh Road entrance a bit as well as tackling encroaching and unwanted weeds, bushes and shrubs.

A Notary Among Us: Word has it that Nina is a certified Notary Public and is available to serve members of the community

Hadleigh Woods Calendar:

Everyone is invited to be a walker on the paved Rail Trail between Roulston Rd. and Windham Depot Rd. Different distances for different folks can be readily accommodated. After the walk, around 9 AM, the walkers gather at the Kitchen at Windham Jct. for coffee and a light breakfast.   See the Web Site for more.

If you like it hot and steamy with a few violent thunderstorms on the side, this summer has been perfect for you. If you like it a little cooler and a little clearer then you’re probably a bit disappointed. Whatever the case, cheer up because we are fast approaching another beautiful New England Autumn of good weather, crisp, local apples, county fairs and the winding down of the Summer of ’07!
